Father wounds are hard to bear
Even into one's adulthood
They seem to linger and fester
Arising at the most awkward times
Resurfacing and causing more pain
As they revisit unresolved issues
Inner irritants and angry agitation
Unforgiveness and lack of reason
Transcending time and seasons
As they remain embedded within
Purposing to keep and cripple you
Forever wound and grossly remove
From you your inner joy and peace
Pointing out the few fatherly flaws
They tend toward self-righteousness
Not recognizing or acknowledging the best
The good times, wonderful qualities, and zest
With which your father provided and poured
His heart forth with time and lifelong strength
Countless hours not fully understood at length
As he endeavored to nurture, rear, and raise
His beloved daughter who came from his loins
Life nevertheless is somewhat complicated
Kind of like a shiny or faded two-sided coin
Yet the value forever remains despite the exterior
Therefore I say to you emphasize the interior
Accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative
Don't dwell upon the past which we cannot change
Pray to Almighty God and ask Him to rearrange
Any frail human tendencies to which we are subject
Show unconditional love realize nobody is a reject
With loving-kindness and heartfelt acceptance
Anybody can be transformed without hesitance
As the bonds of love pull upon the heart strings
We all can transcend our troubles and begin to bring
Forth fruit, joy, peace, love, liberty happily, and life
As we do we can come together and end the strife
Rejoicing in the loving Creator forgiving and removing
The sin, guilt, shame, torment, and inner turmoil
As we receive forgiveness and walk away free
No more our lives shall these hindrances spoil
Our life, our vitality, our incessant need to be
Loved and loving; along with giving and forgiving
Shall heal all wounds we are rehearsing and nursing.
