Fast Diet Snacks

When you're used to having a tasty snack now and then - like the pile of choccie biscuits with a cup of coffee or a tub of high sugar ice cream - then it's often difficult to think of snacks that are more innocent and that can help to keep your fast diet on track.

When losing weight you ideally want to set a new pattern of behaviour in your relationship with food. So, it's no good saying that you can't have snacks at all... That would just drive you crazy! It couldn't last... Who would want it to?

So, nice, tasty things to eat that aren't going to break the 'diet bank' are the order of the day. Here are some suggestions.

Yoghurt is readily available and you can easily find low calorific varieties. They have the benefit of good nutrition (high in calcium) without any weight gaining issues. You can use yoghurt to pour over fruit or mix with muesli/breakfast cereal.

Fruit is the healthy option for a sweet snack although because of the sugar content you shouldn't over do your fruit intake. A banana is only 80'ish calories, a kiwi or satsuma only about 40'ish calories so you see you're not going to break your diet with a moderate amount of fruit. An apple with a small piece of cheese is a good savoury option.

Frozen berries: A trick for a successful fast diet is to have snacks on hand so you're not tempted to go for the chocolate. One keep in the fridge is mixed frozen berry jelly made with low sugar jelly. Just put some berries in a yoghurt pot, pour over your jelly, allow to set and they'll keep in the fridge for a few days.

Eggs are a great source of protein and are very nutritious. A medium sized egg, hard boiled, is only 80'is calories. Dipped in low calorie mayo - great!

Cottage cheese: Go for the tasty varieties with chives, pineapple or onion - great on a salad with a small avocado.

Nuts contain many essential vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants and healthy fats. Don't go for the salted varieties and limit yourself to a handful.

Hot chocolate: At only 50'ish calories a low calorie hot chocolate can make you feel as though you're not being deprived of your choccie fix!

Lean meat: High in protein and will make you feel fuller for longer, chicken or turkey breast (sorry, no skin!) is an ideal meat to include in your fast diet. Hot with vegetables or cold with a salad or in a sandwich - great food...

Popcorn: Steer clear of the highly sweetened popcorn but the lightly salted type with high fibre content will fill you without piling on the pounds.

So, do you have to feel deprived on your fast diet....? Not at all!
