About Australia

Australia is both a country and a continent. It is very famous for its wide open spaces and natural wonders as well as deserts, its beaches, the "Outback" and the "bush". This country and continent is considered as among the most highly urbanized countries in the world. It is also worldly renowned for numerous cosmopolitan attractions of its huge cities such as Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Sydney. It is home to numerous cheap accommodations as well as luxury hotels.

Australia is also the smallest continent but the 6th largest country in the world. It is just a bit smaller than the United States of America. The country's highly urbanized population is concentrated along the south-eastern and the eastern coasts. Australia is bordered on the west, southwest and northwest by the Indian Ocean. It is then bordered on the east by the Pacific Ocean. The sea of Tasman is located along the southeastern region of Australia which separates it from New Zealand. On the other hand, the Great Barrier Reef is located on the northeastern portion of the country-continent. East Timor, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea are the northern neighbors of this country. They are separated from the city of Australia by the Timor Sea and the Arafura Sea. The total land area of the country is 7,682,300 sq. kilometers or 2,966,152 sq. miles.

A lot of travelers underestimate certain distances between towns and cities. In addition Australia has areas that have been deforested in order to convert them for agricultural purposes. Some forest areas that have survived the deforestation are now national parks and are famous around the world.

Cheap Accommodations in Australia

There are numerous hotels in Australia. You can also find budget hotels and other sort of accommodation in this country-continent. Hundreds of hotels are scattered among the country's top tourist destinations. Hotels come in different styles and ambience which will make any traveler's stay enjoyable, relaxing and exciting.

Camping - This is the most popular pastime of Australians. Numerous caravan parks rent camping sites by night where you and your family or friends can pitch a nice little tent. The caravan parks provide toilets and showers while some of them even offer cooking and washing facilities. It costs about 20 US dollars for the tent site and a few extra dollars if you have company. In addition, you can find a lot of caravan parks near the beach that comes with play grounds and swimming pools that are free for the guests.

Motels - Australia has typical motel style accommodations which include a private room as well as a private toilet and shower. Many hotels in the country offer family rooms that usually feature 2 single beds or a double bed within a single room.

Hostels - Budget hostel accommodations with shared baths costs around 20 to 30 US dollars per night. The facilities of hostels in Australia include food storage areas, fully equipped kitchens and adequate refrigeration. Almost all hostels in the country have living room areas that are equipped with dining tables, televisions and couches.

Hotels - All state capitals in the world contain at least a major 5-star hotel. Majority of hotels in Australia are located within the business districts of the capital city which is Sydney.
