Facial Exercises For Double Chin And Jawline Definition

Expert Author Sarah Ann Street

Being old or over weight are not necessarily the only reasons why you may suffer from a double chin; you may have inherited it genetically, but all is not lost as there are several facial exercises for double chin reduction and gaining jawline definition which can go a long way to improving this common problem area.

Our bodies begin to store fat in different areas as we grow older. The neck area is a good example of this. As the muscles of the face and neck are uniquely attached directly to the skin, the appearance of a loose hanging neck, which may well accompany the extra fat layer, is also brought on by the wasting and stretching of these rarely exercised neck muscles at the front of the throat.

The appearance of having several chins, is brought about due to several factors, including excess fat collecting around the neck area in the subcutaneous (fat) layer of the skin. Ageing muscles and tissues begin to stretch and hang, which contributes to the loss of definition around the jawline and throat.

Regular Exercise & Healthy Eating

If a double chin is mainly down to weight gain, then regular exercise and healthy eating should be the main focus, to bring down your overall weight. It is not possible to exercise and expect to lose weight in just one selected area, while the rest of your body is not in good shape. Once the excess fat has been removed however, toning exercises can much improve the appearance.

Exercise Creates Definition

By repeatedly performing specific facial exercises for double chin and jowl definition as you do your weight loss programme, that area will become strengthened and toned as the fat diminishes, tightening and smoothing any loose hanging skin around the neck.

If you are prone to a double chin while not having any excess weight issues, the tightening and strengthening of neck and jaw line muscles created by practicing facial exercises will greatly improve your appearance.

Even if weight gain is the main contributing factor to your double chin, facial exercises can still improve the appearance of this area in other ways.

Reduce Puffiness

The stimulation of both the lymphatic and blood systems improves the appearance of our skin in many ways. As the muscles of the face are exercised, both the circulation of blood and lymph to the muscles and skin are greatly improved, supplying cell regenerating oxygen and nutrients to the area, while dispersing toxins and waste fluids from the surrounding tissues. The skin becomes well nourished and drained, resulting in a clear, healthy looking appearance.

Begin to improve your neck and chin area with these two quick and easy suggestions:

Improve Your Posture

Good posture is the best present you can give yourself. Bad posture can give the impression of extra weight, a bad attitude, and a double chin!! Instantly improve your entire appearance by maintaining a good posture!

By slumping your head down into your shoulders you are encouraging any neck fat, muscles and tissue to bulge, and the skin to wrinkle - never a good look! By standing or sitting up straight - as if you are being pulled up from the crown of your head - with your lower jaw tilted slightly upward you will quickly be reducing your double chin in just a matter of seconds!

Strengthen Neck Muscles

A great exercise to strengthen all the muscles in and around your neck, can be practiced in bed! (Or lying on the floor)

Lie flat on your back making sure your shoulders are relaxed. Gently lift your head up an inch or two. Hold for a count of five, making sure you do not strain. Lower your head back down and relax. Repeat 10 times. If you feel any discomfort in your neck, stop immediately.

As with all facial exercises, this should be repeated at least twice a day, every day to achieve maximum results.

I have spent the last 25 years practicing and developing my facial exercise programme which contains specialized muscle resistance techniques to naturally lift and tone all areas of the face and neck. I now teach facial exercises on a one-to-one basis as well as in group sessions.
