Exploring the Reality of Comprehensive Medical Plans

With the competition between various insurance companies growing with each passing day, the market has been flooded with numerous kinds of insurance plans according to the different needs of the prospective clients. Most of these plans ca be broadly categorized into two groups. The first is the comprehensive medical plans which are the most expensive ones as they cover most of the ongoing health care needs of the insurer. The second category, which constitutes of the least expensive plans, is the specialized health insurance plans.

Comprehensive medical plans further consist of three types of plans. The first and the most expensive ones are the Indemnity Plans. Indemnity plans are the most popular amongst insurers as they cover the costs of the expenses incurred on the visits to the doctors, hospital fee in case the insurer has to be hospitalized, and the costs of the prescribed drugs as well. Since the policies cover almost all the financial aspects of any medical ailment, they naturally cost much more than any other type of health insurance.

The second type of comprehensive medical plans are Managed health care plans, which are also referred to as HMOs, PPOs, POSs. Under these plans, the insurer gets assigned to a health care group consisting of selected doctors, hospitals, and specialists. Due to this, these plans are the least expensive in the category of comprehensive medical plans. However, if an insurer chooses, he can be allowed to take the services of a doctor or hospital of his choice at an additional fee.

The third plans that fall under the category of comprehensive medical plans are the Medical saving accounts, which are basically a combination of a tax-sheltered savings account and a high-deductible health insurance plan. The costs of any minor medical expenses are deducted from the savings account while the more costly medical expenses are covered by insurance.
