Exotic Dance Fitness - Alternative Workouts for Women

Expert Author Felicia B White

I hear the rhythm of the beat and my hips begin to rock as I watch the instructor show the class the first part of the dance routine that she wants to teach us. I'm nervous as hell, because I know that since gaining weight, I've lost my natural rhythm and I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up with this young instructor. I am at an Exotic Dance Party at Aerobics, Yoga & More Fitness and Dance Studios in Lilburn, GA. Twenty minutes into the class I am sweating, swaying my hips from side to side and moving to the beat of the music. It feels great! I have not had this much fun working out since my gym teacher taught us how to do the dance routine to Michael Jackson's Thriller in high school. The first instructor took the time to show us each part of the routine and she made it fun the whole way through. By the time the third instructor got to our class I had gotten my rhythm back and was ready for the next routine. It didn't even feel like I was working out. It just felt like a bunch of ladies dancing and having fun.

Dancing is a great way to burn calories and get a good cardio workout, so why not feel sexy and burn calories at the same time. Women all over the country are using exotic and pole dancing classes to get in shape and feel sexy. Do a search for exotic or pole dancing and you will find that these classes are the popping up all over the country as the leading means of alternative fitness for women. I know I felt a little sexier after attending Althea's exotic dance party, but I have not taken a pole dancing class yet. From what I've been reading there are a lot of benefits to taking these classes. The exotic and pole dancing classes are designed to tone muscle and build strength through the use of body-weight exercises. They also improve endurance, increase metabolism, work on multiple muscle groups & improve core strength.

There is a difference between the two types of classes. Pole dancing involves dancing on and around a highly polished titanium or brass pole. It incorporates gymnastic type movements with ballet and modern dance in different dimensions on the pole and freestyle dancing around the pole. Exotic dancing is more of a floor workout where a chair is often used. This class introduces different dance techniques that help to tone and strengthen your muscles. As with any other form of exercise you should expect to be a little sore after your first class. I know I was after the Exotic Dance Party I went to at AYM studios. It doesn't matter what your age, shape or size is, you can do both exotic and pole dancing for fitness. Find a class near you and get moving.
