A lot of people will have a common stereotype in mind when they are asked to describe your average golf player; it is normally a gentleman in his later years, possibly with a fair bit of money behind him and a ludicrous pair of chequered trousers on. This may have been the case a few years ago but Golf has had somewhat of a revolution in recent years and found many more people either enjoying watching the game or even taking to the course themselves.
Now people from all walks of life play golf, whether this is at their local community golf course or a local golf club where they now have a membership, obviously this will depend on how serious and how often you are playing golf but if you were to go out to your local golf course (on a sunny day) then you may be surprised at who now frequents the golf courses here in the UK...Men, women, children, young and old.
The golf clubs have also realised that people of all ages and genders enjoy a round of golf and now the old ways of being refused entry for a myriad of different reasons has been done away with and you can often find tournaments for all different types of golfers and everyone is welcome. Many clubs now have not only the one club captain who was typically male but also a female club captain as well.
Many famous people play a round or two of golf too with celebrities such as Michael Jordan and Alice Cooper both being prominent celebrities who can often be found on the golf course during their spare time. The sport has definitely seen a boom in popularity since younger exciting golfers have been on the PGA tour such as Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and of course Tiger Woods.
If you fancy trying golf out yourself you are best loaning some clubs either from a friend or renting a set from your club house or golf shop if they allow this. Golf clubs can be expensive and even more so if you find you won't get the use out of them or decide golf isn't for you. Try playing with friends as you'll have a more enjoyable time as you begin playing but also some schemes are available where you can get two for one on green fees, the amount that you have to pay in order to play a round of golf.
