The jury is still out on whether or not hunters should take their dogs while hunting deer. Some states still allow hunting with dogs and while we do not have an opinion one-way or the other, our goal is to keep your dog safe and comfortable during hunting season.
There are certain "must-haves" when it comes to hunting dog supplies for example a dog-hunting vest for safety. The type of dog safety vest that covers the chest and belly in bright orange is the best one to have. These will protect your dog from the underbrush as they move through the woods while making him or her highly visible.
Most of these types of dog safety vests also have reflective strips for night and early morning when the extra visibility is necessary. They are also great for those night walks through the neighborhood as well for those dog owners on their nightly run.
A dog backpack is the next must have. These allow your pooch to pull their own weight while giving you a place to store dog food, treats, and water for your hunting dog. Dog backpacks come in a variety of sizes and colors including some with a leash hook on the harness for when it is necessary to attach a lead.
One the most important items to pack for the trip is a first aid kit geared especially for your four-legged hunting partner. One can never predict an accident and it is better to be prepared than not. Dog first aid kits are available that cover just about every environment whether walking the urban jungle or trekking through the woods. These dog first aid kits have the necessary components your dog may need including styptic powders for nail bleeding, insect whips and all the essential bandages and antiseptic creams you may need.
Aside from remembering to pack along your dog's medications do not forget flea and tick control. Unlike their human companions who are covered from head to toe in clothing, your dog will be highly susceptible to ticks. There are collars specifically made for ticks, not fleas. They must be in contact with your dog's skin and work very well in keeping ticks from attaching themselves to your dog. It is also recommended that you take along a tick key to remove any stubborn ticks that still may find their way on your pooch.
Depending on where you sleep, whether in a hunting cabin or tent there is a good chance the space is rather drafty and damp. Taking along a lightweight dog travel bed that keeps your dog off the ground can help them revive tired muscles and joints. These dog travel beds come in several styles to fit your size dog as well fit the space.
If you are the hunter that wants to take your dog along for the trip then these hunting dog supplies are what you need to keep your pooch safe and comfortable. As any hunter will tell you safety comes first, remember to think of your dog's needs as well.
