Essential Steps to Take After a Car Accident
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

If you are unlucky enough to be involved in an auto accident, there are several things that you need to do soon after an accident to ensure that your insurance claim will be filed as few problems as possible. This is particularly true if you or someone else in your car suffers a personal injury from the crash.

First and foremost, make sure that the accident scene is safe. Hopefully everyone in your car and in the other car will have very minor, if any, bodily injuries and you will be able to move all the cars involved off of the road. Once you are sure everyone is safe, try to take some pictures of the accident scene. If you can, take pictures of both of the cars involved and also the other car's license plate to make sure that you have their information down. Call the police and your insurance company to alert them that there's been an accident.

When the police arrive, make sure that you inform them of all the details of the crash, and if you intend to seek medical attention for any injuries you sustained. Keep a copy of the police report and if you go to the emergency room or to the doctor's office, keep a copy of a record of your visit. As soon as you can, write down everything that you can remember from the crash, including diagrams of what happened. This will help make sure that you tell the right story to the insurance agents every time.

Following these steps to correctly file car accident claims you will make any auto accident settlements you try to reach with an insurance company much easier. There will be less irregularities in your case and you will be able to negotiate from a place of greater strength than you would have otherwise.
