Today there is an ever increasing demand on the construction and maintenance fields for qualified workers and plumbing jobs are everywhere. You cannot just decide one day to become a plumber and start shoving together pipes and fixtures though. Becoming a plumber requires plumber training and for that you will have to spend some time in school.

Anyone considering a career in plumbing has to go through a plumber training course at a trade school or community college which is composed of a certain number of theory classes and a long period of hands on training. There are quite a number of training methods available and it will be up to you to select the one best for you and your career path.

Your first step is to find a school that offers the plumber training that is right for you and your career path. Good research comes in handy here for finding out which schools are credible and which professional bodies in the plumbing field they are connected to. A good plan is to not only check out the school but also the organizations that they are affiliated with.

Plumbing training courses begin with the basics of plumbing technology which usually involves soldering and fixing pipes, tool recognition, health and safety hazards, etc., and then move on to the theory of plumbing, math, science and advanced plumbing techniques. During the course of your training you will be tested and be required to pass written as will as practical exams, demonstrating both your skill as well as your theoretical knowledge.

Plumbing courses do not require that you have many prerequisites in order to begin. You will be taught from the beginning the basics of the trade. The costs of these courses seem like a great deal but when you compare them to other trades and to the amount of money made by professional plumbers, the cost is minimal and you should be able to cover it within the first few months of working in the field.

Upon completion of your plumber training course finding a good job shouldn't be difficult. Most schools have placement programs and with your new knowledge you can even start your own plumbing company, and hire and train other people to do the work.

You will need to get your license as a plumber because it gives your work a lot more credibility. People need to be able to trust that your work will not damage their property or even risk their family's health. Having a license with your name on it means that you are serious about your work and that you don't take any chances with your customers money or health. Plumbing licenses are obtained through passing a plumber training exam. The exam will test your knowledge with written, practical and physical proficiencies. The licensing authority will check your physical fitness, mental alertness and sincerity. Finally having a license makes your accreditation easier and gives you a big edge on the job market.

Plumbing can be a very lucrative career choice if you take the time to go through a good plumber training course, get your license and go to work.
