Have you ever wondered where espresso coffee beans come from when you are visiting your local espresso shop or the different types of beans. The coffee industry is huge. These days espresso catering is even available to companies and parties taking over from the usual finger snacks, but not all beans are grown to perfection.
Coffee Plants are trees that are found mostly close to the equator in South America and Africa. They grow well in the shade.
There are two different types of plants:
Arabica
75% of coffee comes from this bean.
Robusta
This coffee bean is easier and cheaper to grow and also leaves a rather bitter after taste. It is the bean that makes all the instant coffee and it grows in Africa. Low grade Robusta coffee has to be grown properly or else it can taste like medicine.
Dark Roast
Coffee has been roasted at extremely high temperatures for a longer period of time to that of lighter roasts.
Practically all coffee shops will sell roasted blends of coffee beans. The dark roast or Italian roast as it is sometimes known is used to make espresso. A dark roasted bean should have a shiny appearance. They should look dark, but not black. Espresso pods are also available, which are just inserted in a machine.
These darker espresso roasts will also be sweeter in taste because of the natural sugars present. The espresso will have less of a bitter after taste. This will make a good espresso recipe.
