Sleepover Fun
If you have a child in grade school or junior high, they are probably very fond of having or attending sleepovers. Many parents are unsure about the idea of having anywhere from a few to a dozen kids running around their house that night and the next morning. There is also the problem of how to fit all the sleeping bags and slumber bags in your living room or basement as well as what to feed them and how to entertain them. If you are hesitant to host a party of your own for your child, read on for some great ideas and ways to entertain the kids all night and the next morning.
Food
One of the best parts of a slumber party is all of the fun food possibilities. While many parents stick with the standard pizza and pop, there are so many ways to be creative and expand the selection. For starters, drinks are an easy way to have fun. Start by making a few flavors of Kool-Aid in big pitchers. Then fill some ice cube trays with the different flavors. Once they are frozen, mix and match them into the other flavors to create a cool color and flavor effect. Another cool appetizer is making pizza breadsticks. You can do this easily and quickly by placing a frozen pizza in the oven and when it is done cutting in its strips instead of slices. Kids love finger food, so this will be perfect. For the main meal, corn dogs on sticks are always a huge hit. These can be purchased in bulk at the grocery store and are a piece of cake to heat up. Be sure to have plenty of popcorn on hand as well, so the kids can snuggle up in their sleeping bags and enjoy a snack while watching late night movies before bed. Popcorn is also an easy snack to clean up, should it spill in kids slumber bags. Just hold upside down and shake it out.
Activities
Some favorite slumber party activities are arts and crafts. Girls may enjoy decorating t shirts and boys may enjoy painting miniature race car statues or wood objects. The possibilities are endless. If the weather is nice in the early evening, outdoor play is fun as well. Many kids enjoy basketball, Frisbee and whiffle ball. As the night winds down, movies are the best way for kids to wind down from a fun party. Have all the kids spread out their slumber bags and snuggle into them while the movies play.
Play tents and Teepees
Setting up Play tents and teepees will make the guests at the party excited to go to bed. One of the coolest things is to have some of the kids roll out their sleeping bags and slumber bags inside the play tents or teepees and sleep that way. They will feel like they are camping and it will be the hit of the party. One thing to consider is making sure that you have enough play tents or teepees for all of the kids to fit their sleeping bags and slumber bags in so no one feels left out. You can even make camping the whole theme of the party and tailor the food and activities to match that theme. Teepees are super cool with their high centers and play tents are fun as well with their flap windows and doors. The kids will all have a blast. Just make sure to remind parents to bring the sleeping bags and slumber bags for their kids unless you will need to supply lots of blankets and pillows!
