I have been a slave to credit cards since 4 years ago and I am now still striving hard to pay back my lesson fee. I used to own 5 cards at the same time and I was proud to have those cards in my wallet. After some time, my card statements are getting thicker and my outstanding balances shown on the statements are increasing. I spent 50% of my monthly income to pay off the minimum monthly payment. I was almost flat broke and I nearly declared bankruptcy.
I attended one seminar which was related to financial planning and I realized that I must take some cruel actions towards myself. I set a plan and I forced myself to follow strictly:
- I destroyed all my credit cards
- I started to jot down all my daily expenses everyday
- I started my part time job as a cashier in one pharmacy nearby my house during weekend. I worked 7 days a week
- I stopped eating out and I forced myself to spend only USD 5 per day on meals
- I sold my car in order to pay part of my debts and I took public transport to work
- I forced myself to sleep at 9pm as I switched off all the lights and TV in order to save cost on utilities
- I stopped going to hypermarket. I only bought necessary items when I really needed them. I did price comparisons among different stores before purchasing things
- I stopped going for box office for 2 years
Until today, there are still banks and card providers offering their cards and services to me. I told myself that I would never get trapped in this hardship. Always say NO to this card!
