Widescreen technology is prevalent within televisions in the modern era, however LG have brought out a phone which offers the same viewing aspect in a mobile phone, the LG BL40. The phone is a revolutionary handset which measures 128 mm long by 51 mm wide and 10 mm thick. It weighs 129 grams. It has an elongated style to it which is required for the wide screen element of the phones capabilities. It offers a sumptuous range of features and has become a popular handset since its launch in September 2009.

One key element of the phones functionality is its 5 mega pixel camera which operates at a resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels. The use of Schneider-Kreuznach optics is a testament to LG's focus on quality. Additional aids include auto focus, face and blink detection and an LED flash. Geo tagging is also provided and offers the means to reference images by location. For situations that are more suited to video capture, the phone offers video recording and playback at VGA quality and at 30 frames per second.

The central focus of the phone is the 4 inch wide screen TFT touch screen. It is the main element of the phone in terms of appeal and offers excellent colour reproduction due to the fact it can display 16 million colours. It is one of the best screens available on any mobile phone. The touch screen is enhanced by the fact that the handset uses the S class touch user interface and multi touch input methods as its primary means of accessing functionality in a simple yet effective manner. The accelerometer and proximity sensors provide automatic features which alter the aspect of images as well as saving on battery power by automatically shutting of the unit.

GPRS, HSCSD, EDGE, Blue tooth, microUSB, HSDPA and Wi-Fi provide a whole compendium of connection options. Internet access is available at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps whilst hot spots available can be used thanks to the Wi-Fi capability. GPS with A-GPS support is the Satellite navigation option.

Entertainment is provided by means of the MP3/MP4 player and stereo FM radio, with the addition of a 3D image gallery, document viewer and organiser. A TV out feature means video can be played from the handset onto a television.

The LG BL40 is an accomplished piece of technology. It offers a sumptuous blend of technology and design. With numerous innovative features, the phone offers a veritable menagerie of choices for the modern mobile phone user. Its wide screen technology puts the phone at the forefront of most handsets and its popularity is assured.
