Effective Public Speaking - Stop Speech Anxiety Or Presentation Nerves

Expert Author Anne McKenzie

If you are faced with making a public speech or presentation but you suffer badly with nerves, and you really want to be able to make a speech without having all this anxiety, then the key is to program your mind to get rid of your public speaking nerves.

Many people hate public speaking and only do it reluctantly which often means that the talk or presentation itself is less effective than it would be otherwise. Making a presentation when you are nervous is something that you can overcome if you have the right tools. The main key though is to know your subject matter as well as you can so that you can speak about it with authority. If you know exactly what you are talking about then this is the first step towards making a great speech, especially if you are also able to calm your nerves.

If you can make those changes to your mindset so that you actually look forward to public speaking and see it as a challenge then this will make you a much more effective public speaker. Using positive affirmations to change your mindset is a great way to do this. Some of the affirmations that you can use are:

  • I enjoy public speaking and giving presentations
  • Giving presentations comes naturally to me
  • I see public speaking as a learning opportunity
  • I have a clear mind and am focused when giving a speech
  • I am fully focused and know my subject so that I can speak with authority.

Use these affirmations frequently and for a good amount of time (at least a few weeks) before your presentation or public speech. If you can listen to these affirmations subliminally (where the affirmations are recorded on a different frequency to the human ear) on a frequent basis then you can access the subconscious part of the brain. This is 10 times as big as the conscious mind and also you can listen to the affirmations whenever you like, even when asleep! Subliminal Messaging is a form of self-hypnosis and has been used by people for years to overcome their fears and problems. Try using these and see yourself becoming calm and confident about your presentation.
