There is some thing of a misconception among webmasters that submitting to directories is no longer a valid way to build incoming links to your website or blog. This couldn't be further from the truth! While some of the players have changed and the weighting of the links from various directories is always subject to adjustment, if you look you are still going to see a LOT of follow directory links in your incoming links referral lists.
Some have also said that the relative value of the paid directory links is also on the decline. I'm talking about links in the Yahoo directory, and other paid directories. The truth here is that it may or may not make sense to make that kind of investment in your site, depending on what your goals are. The same could be said for the DMOZ directory.
The bottom line here is that submitting to directories has always brought a wealth of link love to webmasters who've taken the time and made the effort to get it done! The question these days is, should you automate the process or have it done manually.
