Adolescence can be a really tough stage in a person's life. One's body changes, and so many influences such as peer pressure and images from different media can really confuse a delicate disposition of a teenager. Before the confusion goes on and more teenagers get sick because of body image problems, parents and older people can introduce easy diets for teens that promote healthy, light bodies without having to starve and go to the extremes.
A main concern for teens when they diet is calories, especially for girls, brought out by images they see on TV of celebrities and models counting the calories they consume. For them to know, a teenage girl's recommended daily calorie intake should be 2,000 calories while boys need up to 2,400. A teenager's body is in the development stage, so it is never a good idea to do an adult diet that entails skipping meals. Snacking is one area that teens can control. There is a conscious effort for girls to avoid them, but there are nutritious snacks that they can eat, such as nuts or popcorn without butter or cheese powder.
Easy diets for teens should clear up any issues on fats. Fats are necessary building blocks for a strong body, but a lot of teenagers, especially girls stay clear of it because of its negative connotations. As with adults, teenagers should actually avoid transfats and hydrogenated vegetable oils. Both are very unhealthy, yet they are found in a lot of food available in grocery stores. A good diet plan for teens should include healthy fats found in olive and sunflower oil, as well as in oily fish varieties like tuna.
Diet for teens should also include sources of minerals to strengthen their bones, as in calcium. This mineral is of utmost importance to teenagers as having strong teeth and bones during this stage of a person's life can set him or her for a good body until adulthood. Yet the most popular calcium sources do have a bad rep for teens, especially dairy products including ice cream and milk. Thus, calcium fix in a teen's diet can be gotten from dark green leafy veggies, yoghurt, nuts, seeds, and fruits, as well as in fortified cereals and non-fat milk.
Guardians of adolescents should note that letting a teenager undergo a crash diet to achieve an ideal body weight is highly discouraged as a teenager's body is still developing. Easy diets for teens should be coupled with a reminder that balance at this stage of a person's life is perhaps the most essential.
