Drugs in Tap Water - Seven Things You Must Know

Boy was I infuriated when I learned that there are drugs in tap water. Now anytime I drink a glass of water, I have to consider that I may possibly be ingesting traces of a sex hormone or mood stabilizer. It's a scary thought and recent studies have shown that there are indeed many reasons why we should be alarmed. Before dismissing this as a crazy conspiracy or harmless situation, consider these seven important facts.

1. After five months of investigation, drugs in tap water were detected in 24 major metropolitan areas in the US. What's worse is that many areas did not participate in the study so the number of people who have access to contaminated water is most likely higher.

2. People who drink bottled water are not out of harm's way. The drugs in tap water also make their way into many water bottles because 25 percent comes from the tap and companies do not treat or test for pharmaceuticals.

3. Water purification methods like reverse osmosis and steam distillation are not effective at removing synthetic chemicals including prescription drugs. Not to mention they are expensive and inconvenient.

4. Don't make the mistake of assuming you are in the clear because you live in a rural area and use well water. Experts believe that well water is also likely to be contaminated by the same drugs in tap water.

5. Because their bodies are less developed and less capable of getting rid of toxins, children may be the biggest victims in this situation. The consumption of pure water is the only way to detoxify your body and if the water your children drink contains traces of drugs, it could possibly lead to disease and learning disorders.

6. The effects to human health after long term consumption of drugs in tap water are still unclear but new laboratory research gives us reason to be worried. The response of human cells to exposure to small amounts of medication is alarming. For example, breast cancer cells proliferated quickly after exposure to medication. Furthermore, the results to wildlife worry scientists. Feminized male fish have been discovered after exposure to estrogen-like substances in water. Only time will tell what this can mean for humans.

7. Wastewater treatment plants simply aren't equipped to remove prescription drug traces from tap water. The government doesn't even test for them yet, much less remove them from the water. There are no set limits for drugs in tap water so no one knows whether their water is even safe enough to drink.

Make no mistake about it... drinking tap water simply isn't an option anymore. In order to protect yourself and your family you need to start looking for ways to filter out all the impurities like drugs in tap water. Carbon block and granular filtration systems offer the best technology for filtering your water supply, including the prescription drug traces that are harder to get rid of. So what's stopping you? Get out there are start comparing carbon filters for your home to ensure that your water supply is pure and safe.

For the most cost effective and healthy solution to ensure a clean, pure and safe supply of water throughout your home, consider a water filtration system. Find out more about the finest water filtration options for your home at http://www.waterpurificationadvisor.com.
