If you happen to already have a digital camera that does everything you want it to, then there's really no need to read much further. This article is really about what to look for when shopping for digital cameras. Specifically in the online world. And what some of the latest and upcoming technologies explained as they pertain to digital cameras. This article is aimed at basically beginning to intermediate level photographers.
One of the best things you can do when considering the purchase of a new digital camera is to do a little reading. It won't take long, maybe an hour or two. But, it's well worth the effort to put in the time to get a little up to speed on what has changed with digital cameras since the last time you bought one. If this is your first camera, then it's even more important as there is a lot of jargon to wrap your head around. Don't try and understand everything, as the basics should serve you well.
On the plus side, digital cameras have become very advanced in terms of what they can do for you, and how easy they are to use. Stick with some of the bigger names, like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Fuji and Olympus. These guys have been in the business for quite a while, develop good price competitive products, and stand by their cameras with good customer service and support.
Set yourself a budget, and stick with it. It's pretty easy to get lured into spending more, when you start looking at some of the shiny features offered by digital camera manufacturers. But, think long and hard about whether those state of the art features are really worth it. If there brand new to a specific camera or manufacturer, chances are they still have some bugs that need to be worked out. Things like image stabilization, face recognition, auto focus and auto cleaning systems have been around for a while and are pretty stable.
