In India, baby boys are favored above baby girls. The reason being that the parents of the girl has to pay a dowry to marry their daughter off. So if they have boys, then they would receive the dowry from their son's future in-laws. No matter how highly educated a girl is, they still have to pay a dowry. It is illegal for them to demand dowry but it still happens. So now when a poor family has more than one girl baby, they believe that it is curse rather than a blessing.

In Northern India, several dogs found a newborn baby girl who was abandoned in an orchard. She was covered in mud and leaves, but these dogs found her and barked furiously until people came to see what was going on. They found the baby girl in good shape. She was rescued and given to a farm family to bring her up. They do not know who the parents of this new born baby is. Dogs have a great instinct to save their owners. But these were wild dogs, and yet, they did not attack the baby, instead they caused enough noise to save this baby's life.

Animals, and especially dogs, tend to be very gentle with babies. They say that even a snake would not bite a baby, if he accidentally picked it up. There is a play about a 4 year old boy who spent two years on the streets, and cared for by dogs. He thought that he himself was a dog, because he did not know better. What a good reason to treat our pets, and dogs well. There was a story about a man beating his puppy. There is no reason for people to abuse a dog. If they do not like dogs, they don't need to have any around them. There just is no excuse for abuse of innocent animals.

If you own a dog, then it is your job to treat them with love and respect. Your pet loves you no matter what. But that does not give us the right to hurt them. Feed your pet the best food, give them the best bed to sleep on, and give them a collar that identifies them if they get lost. Now they even offer a GPS system for your dog so you can find him if he gets lost or is stolen.
