Dog Training - What is the Right Age to Start?

Expert Author Okereke Uma

Most people like to get their pups trained by enrolling them in training classes. For this purpose the pup should be at least 10 to 12 weeks old to get enrolled. The training centers would ensure that the pup has received the two regular vaccinations for its own protection and for the safety of other pups. Along with these the Bordatella vaccination and a stool test results should be provided.

However, the dog training classes for your pup should start at home from the day it is born. It need not be intensive but gradual spending about five to ten minutes for each training session. The first trainer is its mother and its litter mates from whom it learns a lot. The next trainer is the inmates of the home who should give them proper training so they can follow the same when they are weaned away from the mother to find their new homes. For this purpose people prefer to purchase pups from a reputed breeder who has enough knowledge in dog training.

The essential dog training sessions that a pup will require to be a well behaved pet inside and out of the house include: Natural behavior; a positive exposure to its environments, sounds, different people, situations and surfaces around it; crate training, words, household routine, potty training, collar and leash training. They should be given basic home manners and trained to know what to chew on and what not to.

When taking the pets outdoors, the dog training should include manners and obedience which should not be changed with the distraction of other dogs. Apart from these the pup picks up its own good manners and habits which are most of the time very amusing and useful that suit its environment. They should be given a special time to prove their worth by allowing time to be spent with the dog each day. Dogs love to be messed around with.

Dogs have a good sense of humor and they tend to put that to use, especially when they are very young and in most cases even as adults, they love to play games with children and they know exactly when you are busy and when you have a little time to play with them. Though this will be included as a part of the dog training sessions, they actually don't have to be told, they can understand a lot from our talk and our actions as well.
