Does a Monkey Make a Good Pet?
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Everyone has thought, at one time or another, how awesome it might be to own a monkey for a pet. While we could go on forever with all the reasons monkeys would be fun to own, the negatives far outweigh the positives. So, why won't a monkey make a great pet?

A pet monkey needs to wear diapers. This is not only when they are infants but throughout their entire lives. While you may make every effort to try teaching a pet monkey to use the restroom, it will be in vain. Monkeys cannot be toilet trained like a child and though people joke, it is true that monkeys throw feces. When it is in your home and you are the one to clean up the mess, it is not so funny. This is not the only reason not to go out and buy that monkey that you have always wanted.

While of course they are cute and cuddly as babies, monkeys become extremely playful and energetic adolescents.  As they approach adulthood they become unpredictable. They can be extremely aggressive and dangerous with strength beyond that of an adult human being. The possibility of severe injury when dealing with an angry or upset monkey is great.

Besides not being able to potty train your pet monkey and ending up highly unpredictable and dangerous, most states have outlawed owning a monkey as a pet. Instead of becoming an outlaw to own your dream pet, buy a ticket and visit your favorite species of marmoset in the safety and comfort of your local zoo.
