A lot of people ask themselves "does hypnosis work"? After all, it's very easy to watch a television show and see someone clucking like a chicken and think that they're just an actor or stooge, planted there to make the show look good.
So, let's get down to it. Does hypnosis work or is it just a figment of your imagination?
Well, actually, it's a bit of both. Your imagination comes into play otherwise hypnosis would be pretty boring. But you could be the dullest person on earth with no visible signs of imagination and still be able to be hypnotized.
At its most basic, hypnosis is just a controlled day dream state. The hypnotist will get you to relax and close your eyes. They'll then plant images or suggestions in your subconscious and these will usually be carried out by you.
I say usually because hypnosis can't make you do anything you don't want to do. If that wasn't the case, a hypnotist could just ask you to hand over all your money to them and it would work. Not very likely!
Hypnosis definitely works. It's being used on you all the time, even if you're not aware of this. Television adverts are a good case in point - their wording is cleverly designed to get you to follow through to the desired outcome (buying the product). This is done through a series of embedded hypnotic commands which sneak past your conscious mind straight through to your subconscious. Which, in turn, pretty much blindly acts on them. Ouch!
If this intrigues you, it's worth investigating further. If only to build up your awareness of how hypnotic techniques are being used on you day in, day out.
