If you've been studying hypnosis for any length of time, chances are that you'll have come across the idea of hypnosis mind control. Now, of course, at its simplest all hypnosis is a form of mind control. It's passing ideas into your subconscious mind with the idea of changing you for the better. But can this be taken further - almost to a James Bond villain kind of level?
The answer to this question isn't straightforward. Yes, hypnosis can be used to help change your mind's short cuts and patterns. No, you can't be brainwashed by hypnosis or at least, not ethically, and we're not going to go into secret service methods here.
In between these two extremes, there's a lot of gray area. And it's this area that hypnosis mind control works on.
By planting various suggestions in your mind, usually with things such as embedded commands, hypnosis can work to change the direction you're thinking. Used by an expert, it can also induce a state of confusion into your mind - usually by stacking lots of different and contradictory ideas in a short space of time so that your brain twists and turns and just gives up trying to make sense of things. A bit like watching a surrealist film.
Once this state of confusion has been achieved, it's quite possible to slip in a hypnotic command or two directly into your subconscious mind. Your conscious brain is still too busy trying to work out what's happened but your subconscious will be listening and will act on the commands it's given. Which is hypnosis mind control at it's simplest.
