Does Colour Matter?

Expert Author Cindy Rossiter

So does what colour you wear even matter? There are a growing number out there including me who would answer with a resounding yes to that question. Before I ever trained to do colour analysis I was always aware of the affect of colour on my mood - wearing red if I wanted to feel good, black if I wanted to seem sophisticated and older and always wondering about magenta pink and camel. I was never afraid of colour and my wardrobe held a whole myriad of different shades, but every now and again I would have a nagging doubt about a colour I was wearing or wonder why I didn't look and feel fantastic.

When I trained as an image consultant I learned that different people can indeed wear different colours and that it goes deeper than that and that the colour of a person's eyes, hair and skin can even affect the tone and depth of a colour so that whilst I as a dark haired, brown eyed, very white skin woman can wear primary shades of boldest red, blue, and yellow, my fairer haired, blue eyed friend needed less aggressive colours, softer tones of all those colours would suit her much better. And it went further than that making life so much easier when shopping for other people, there was no point buying olive, brown and rust for my cool skinned, dark haired other half because he'd just look as if he needed a blood transfusion - and no point passing on my rejects to my friends of the same size etc as if they weren't like me colouring wise they were not going to suit them.

Of course, it's gone on a long way since that discovery and several hundred analysis sessions later I am still convinced that in order to have a coordinated wardrobe and look your absolute best wearing colours which are good on you is the route forward and that colour analysis is the short cut to that knowledge - which let's face it none of us are born with. Even the most confident fashionistas will admit to having made a few expensive faux pas in the colour department. Besides the cost of clothes these days the cost of an appointment pales into insignificance. Indeed, my own analysis was a big birthday present - and I have always thought it was the best money I ever spent on my wardrobe and I hadn't got anything to wear.
