Do the Math - Garage Organization + Vertical Storage = Lots of Space
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

We have all seen the articles and website that say to organize your closet, garage, etc, but how much extra space are you really getting? We decided to give you a garage scenario and organize it with the Gladiator products. We all have an area in our garage where you keep items such as tool boxes, containers holding holiday decorations, brooms and some yard tool, etc (this is your junk corner). This area is 3' x 11', which equals 33 square feet of flat horizontal space to keep these things. It's probably a little more than that since you pile thing on top of each other and make some sort of weird mountain of things inside your garage. We figured that with a little planning and either professional installation or for the DIY you can almost triple that space with organization products. Talk is cheap so let's do the math.

Say you add the following to that space:

(1) 6' workbench (surface are of (72" x 25")

(1) 30" wall cabinet (30" x 12" x 3 shelves)

(2) 24" wall cabinets (24" x 12" x 2 shelves)

(1) roll around base cabinets, slides under the workbench (28" x 25" x 2 shelves)

(1) Drawer cabinet, slides under the workbench (28" x 25" x 5 shelves)

(1) vertical storage locker (30" x 18" x 4 shelves)

(3) 36" x36" overhead storage racks Wall system and hooks to hang the tools and brooms,.

If you do the math and figure the square inchs, square feet, how many shelves there are you will end up with around 82 square feet of horizontal storage space, which is almost triple from what we started with. That doesn't even include any of the hooks to hang hand tools, such as the brooms, hammers, etc. You can only image what that space would look like after you organize it. You also gain back a walking area in front of the workbench since it is only 25" deep and the original space was 3 foot, so you can actually walk around and use this area now.

To get some ideas or to see the specs about the products we used in our example go to our website at www.thegaragedesigncenter.com. There you can see actual garages that we transformed with the before and after pictures.
