Thirty some years ago I found out about a business that very few people knew about that generated huge income. I was functioning as a salesperson for small business on the Jersey shore. I sold steam cleaners and power washers for a company that did sales service and maintenance on those kinds of items.

They also had a restaurant hood and duct cleaning business that put a lot of money in the owner's pocket. He didn't talk about that aspect of the business much and I didn't think much about it being so young but thinking back I now know why.

He had himself a little cash cow and was not interested in letting the rest of the world know why he drove around in big cars and smoked fat cigars. The reason was this niche business was not well known and thus the competition was low. The less people knew about it the less competition was likely to come aboard.

It turns out that competition is not really an issue. The volume of work that is out there and requirements by the state to County and the cities forced the restaurants to use an outside entity to keep their hoods and ducts cleaned. With those requirements in place, the amount of restaurants in any given area, the spectacular revenue generated on a daily basis and with the minimal physical effort on the owner's part this is an ideal business.

It's a blue-collar business with a white collar income and if you want to drive around in big cars and smoked fat cigars like my old boss did you may want to consider it.
