Is this the first time you're buying a digital camera? The number of models available can confuse anyone.
You're probably wondering how you should choose a model among the many that exist. There is also the problem of cost, which can be quite high. So, if you don't make the right choice, you will be hundreds of dollars out.
Keep reading and you will learn more about how to pick a digital camera. If you make the right choice you will choose a camera that will do everything you need from it.
Purchasing a camera doesn't need to be something hard. If you take into consideration the right things, choosing the right digital camera can be easy. When you want to buy a camera, keep your eyes on these factors: how many megapixels, the user controls, the zoom lens, the battery life and the exposure control.
Life of the battery.
Something that the vast majority of people don't take into consideration is batteries. The life of the battery is actually quite important. Most people will choose digital cameras that are top of the line, with a lot of options, while neglecting the battery life. What people forget is that they can run out of battery when they need it most. Just because a digital camera is expensive, it doesn't mean that it has good battery life. There are plenty of cheap models that have a good battery and plenty of expensive ones that have weak ones.
How many megapixels?
The number of megapixels tells you how good will the photo quality be. In most cases, digital cameras will be between 2 and 8 megapixels in resolution. Finding out how much resolution you actually need can be a bit more difficult. If all you want to do with your camera is take photos and upload them online or email them to people, a small resolution should be sufficient. If you want to create larger prints you will need a bigger resolution.
The zoom lens.
What you need is a camera that has a good optical zoom. Don't choose just any type of zoom though. You should go with optical zoom and ignore the digital zoom value. Digital zoom uses software to enhance the photo, so the end result is a photo with poor quality. Optical zoom on the other hand, zooms in using the lens. Therefore, the photo quality is very good. Plenty of manufacturers talk about the digital zoom value, not the optical, so pay attention to what they are offering.
