Do You Have What it Takes to Be a Franchisee?

Before any of the forms, before any of the research, figuring out if you're the sort of person who could be a franchisee is the best first step. Looking at it from the perspective of the franchisers can often be a great way to find out if you may be what they are looking for. However, keep an open mind- these are all merely just the statistics that have been seen and trends that have been in place and as the popularity of franchising grows, so do the demographics.

Background

Your background may not play as big of a factor as some would think. Franchisees generally come from all sorts of demographics and are often simply those who would like to start their own business, but perhaps do not want to go through the complexities of doing so alone. Trends have shown that most potential franchisees come from cooperate backgrounds, or middle to upper management- usually those who have become dissatisfied with the position they are in and seek to go it on their own. For whatever the reason, most who go into franchising do so because it offers them the freedom of self employment, with a structure and support that you just cannot get in independent business.

Capital

This is usually an area where many are intimidated by any business start up, even franchising- though franchising tends to have much less start up needed than simply opening your own business. Most franchisees will have a bit of capital to put towards financing, and have to obtain the rest through some other means of funding. The Small Business Association often is the method of choice to obtain these funds. Often, franchisees and potential franchisees either obtain small loans from family or they have funds saved for such a purpose to put towards obtaining the loans that they need.

Age, Marital Status, and Education

Statistically speaking, the average franchisee age range falls between thirty five to fifty five years old, not because younger people cannot get into franchising, but simply because many franchisers are seeking out those who are stable and established. So, for a younger person looking to get into franchising, this may be where background can play a factor. Also, many statistics have shown that typically, franchisees are married, and have at least a two year degree of some sort. It is not usually necessary at all to have a degree or any of these things, but these are the trends that have been shown.

Now bear in mind that all of these things are just numbers from the way that things have gone thus far, and actually- if you do have the determination, drive and willingness to learn, many franchisers will take that into account. They are looking for someone who has the vision and discipline to continue the success they are already seeing in their franchise, so, put your best foot forward no matter what walk of life you come from and you, too can become a success in franchising.

Starting a business and being your own boss is an exciting venture, but it should not be taken lightly. Proper support for your business is very important. Check out an example of a real franchise and how they run by visiting FiltaFry or Learn about Filta.
