Do Overuse of Gadgets Lead to Brain Fatigue?

Sheila Kapoor, a 35 year old holds a responsible chair in a renowned software industry. Whether working from home or in office, she constantly juggles through three screens- her iPhone, laptop and high definition TV set. While working, she often listens to her favorite rock number in her i- phone, frequently checks her mails in the phone or laptop and placing occasional glances at the breaking news being displayed on the TV.

The latest advent of technology has brought all sorts of entertainment within the grasp of millions providing value added services at the same time. People feel relaxed while juggling through different entertainment gadgets, but the scientists have a different story to tell. They are of the view that the brain is being taxed too much, over stretching its capacity through the constant use of these handy gadgets leaving very little room for long term memory retention.

Researches do reveal that our brain follows a definite learning pattern that helps in long term memory retention, which gets greatly disturbed due to the overuse of these gadgets.
Studies have also showed that the learning power of an individual is greatly enhanced after taking a long walk in nature than after a walk in congested urban environment.
People feel entertained, relaxed when they listen to music, play mobile games while working out in gym or involved in multitasking. But the reality is, the brain is deprived of the sufficient rest that is required for the memory retention power.

To prevent over- exercising of brains, several mobile companies are in stiff competition in reducing the average time of the games or by introducing small free time bits called "micro moments", along with the interesting and exciting features. This provides some rest to the brains which is of utmost necessity but is being overlooked and ignored in the whirlpool of daily pursuits.

Scientists are sounding a word of caution - Where the present generation is heading to with the extensive use of gadgets? Aren't they going to be the preys of a fresh set of 'memory loss' or brain related diseases with aging? These few important points need to be pondered from now onwards.
