Digital Canvas Prints Think Outside the Frame

We wanted new Digital Canvas Prints for the home, so we decided to take some pictures of the kids. This caused me to remember the poem by Robert Burns which contains that now famous line "The best laid plans of mice and men often go astray." How true!

My wife borrowed a camera from work a few weeks ago. I say "borrow" because as much as we enjoy capturing moments on camera, I have never owned a fancy professional camera. Because she works at a place where creativity is the norm, whether its' drawing, animating, photographing or videotaping, they have the 'good stuff.' So we decided to take out love of capturing our children's beautiful faces and take some outdoor shots. We were picturing sunshine, great lighting, a breeze here are there... idyllic, really. Lo and behold, the weekend we borrowed the 'good stuff,' it was cloudy and overcast. Go figure. We didn't let that stop us, though. We trekked down to the nearby state park and took a few shots at the gazebo and the pond, not sure how they would turn out.

Next we tried going to the local art museum, where they have some great outdoor sculptures. Wouldn't you know it: they were having a fundraising event that night, so the museum, including the outdoor venue, was closed to the public.

We stopped and got some ice cream instead and headed home, a little disappointed. Where we ever going to get canvas photo prints.

The next day, my wife was determined to get some decent shots of the kids, and since once again it looked too cloudy to get into the car and drive somewhere, she Jerry-rigged a white bed sheet in the dining room, where the best natural light is found in our house.

Here she captured some great photos of the kids, smiling, happy, arms around each other. Who knew? Maybe the whole point was to get some great photos of our children, not in the best places to capture the moment, but in the place where the best moments of our lives take place-in our home.

So don't think that you need a fancy camera or a well laid out venue to capture those moments worthy of digital canvas print. Get creative, don't over think it, and just push the button.

Now we have Digital Canvas Prints hanging in the home right where the photo was taken, and every time I look at it I smile, knowing what we went through that weekend, searching for the best location. The best location was right under our noses.
