Different Types of Aquarium Stands

To find the lowest cost aquarium stands, consider comparison-shopping among local retails and online suppliers. A good stand will easily accommodate the weight and dimensions of a tank, but this does not mean that one must buy them as a set. Often, the best deals may be found when purchasing a fish tank stand apart from an aquarium, as you will not be charged for the added convenience of a preassembled kit. Consider the following when deciding which aquarium stand is the best fit for your home, budget, and tank.

Metal aquarium stands tend to be the least expensive commercially available option. Stands are either made of lightweight aluminum frames, which will work well with small tanks weighing around a hundred pounds, or welded steel, which is sturdy enough for tanks weighing up to a few hundred pounds. While the look of metal furniture in your sitting or living room may not seem appealing, fish tank stands can be painted easily to match décor.

There are a number of online, aquarium supply warehouses that offer everything from discounted tanks to fish tank stands at below average cost. For shipping purposes, many of these stands will arrive in a few pieces that must then be assembled, but this small time investment can save significant amounts of money. Do not forget to factor in the cost of shipping to the overall cost of the tank.

55 gallon aquarium stands must hold up to a great deal of pressure. Wood is the material most commonly use for 55 and 75 gallon aquarium stands. Instead of choosing a piece made entirely out of your wood of choice, find a stand that is composed of inexpensive materials with a veneer of oak, cherry, or any other finish that will match your room.

For a DIY aquarium stand, use a stable end or corner table. This is only recommended for those with small tanks. Before setting up your tank, make sure that the table is completely level and far from any windows or heat sources that could affect tank temperature or lighting.

Quality aquarium stands are a necessary part of any aquarium display, but one can find good options even at the lower ends of the price spectrum. It is important, though, never to sacrifice stability or adequate surface area.
