Nowadays, the concept of one-style-fits-all bridesmaid dresses is fast becoming out of style. This is, of course, good news for brides who desire a unique if eclectic look on their wedding and bridesmaids who want to express their individuality whilst making the bride happy on her wedding day.
With that said, here are tips to help any bride achieve a unified look despite the different styles and sizes, cuts and colors of the bridesmaid dresses.
Different Styles
You have to determine the specific style you want your bridesmaid to follow when they select their dresses. Said style may only refer to the upper half or the lower half of the dress just as long as you set specific criteria.
For example, you may specify that the dresses they choose must be of a certain color, of a certain fabric and of a certain length. Your bridesmaids can then choose the styles that suit their personality and preferences best.
This way, you achieve a unified look through color, fabric and hem while making your bridesmaids happy with their bridesmaid dresses.
Different Sizes
And then there is the issue of body shape. You have to consider the cut and color that will suit the specific body type of a bridesmaid so that she, too, will look good. After all, you want your bridesmaids/friends to be beautiful on your wedding day so that on their wedding day, they will be gracious to allow you look good, too! It's called karma, sort of.
Again, you may ask your bridesmaid to stick to one fabric type and one color while lengths and cuts can vary. For example, your petite bridesmaid can opt for shorter skirts to achieve an elongated look.
Different Colors
Your bridesmaids will have different skin tones and hair color. As such, it may not be a good idea to have them wear same-colored bridesmaid dresses simply because you want them to all look similar, like schoolgirls on parade. Besides, you do want them to look pretty in the pictures, don't you? Of course, you do!
If you really must have similar colors, then opt for various shades of the same color. For example, instead of plain blue for everybody, let your bridesmaid choose from shades of blue like periwinkle, angel blue and baby blue, to name a few, that will best suit their skin complexion and hair color.
Or you can even have them wear bridesmaid dresses in the colors of the rainbow! To achieve a unified appeal, let your bridesmaid wear the same style on which you have all agreed on as the most flattering for all body size and shapes.
And even when your bridesmaids wear dresses with different cuts, colors, styles and sizes - a truly eclectic look - you can still create continuity together with the right accessories! For example, you can have them wear the same jewelry set to identify them as your bridesmaids.
The most important thing about choosing bridesmaid dresses is constant, clear and caring communication. This way, you make your bridesmaid happy with your choice of attire for them and you are happy because your bridesmaids will be the best bridesmaids, ever!
