This is an area that today there is much discussion. Some companies even say that you will not require your medications. Well this wellness coach begs to differ and this article will say just that, dietary supplements are not a replacement for your medications.
Now your dietary supplements typically should supply you with vitamins, minerals, proteins and other healthful nutrients. However they do not replace the variety of your foods that are very important to your healthy diet. They are and should always be intended to supplement your diet when they are needed.
The prudent shopper, which hopefully is you, should always read and follow the instructions on the label, these supplements are not an exception to that rule. And, if you need to be told, do not exceed the recommended dosage as stated on the label. And for goodness sake please do not give your children supplements that are intended for you adults.
Now if you have any pre existing conditions that require medical supervision or have known allergies to some foods or medications always consult your doctor before taking any dietary supplement.
And always inform your doctor or pharmacist about the supplements that you are taking. Have the supplements checked out by your doctor when you visit her. Always bring the labels as some health professionals are not well educated on supplementation. And for sure if you have any unusual symptoms while you are taking a supplement, stop taking it and call your doctor. It pays to be cautious. So I believe I have made my point that dietary supplements should not replace your prescribed medications. And as always you must eat well to be well.
