Everyone needs bath towels, but how do you decide that right number of towels for you and your family? There are several things to consider.
First of all, how many bathrooms do you have? If you have three bathrooms in your home, but only two are used frequently because the third bathroom is for guests, you need to take that into consideration. Guest bath towels don't usually get used as much as those in your personal bathrooms, so you won't need as many. Think about the number of family members and friends that visits. If your best friend visits, you will need at least extra one set - a bath towel, a hand towel, and a washcloth - to accommodate them. If your mother and father visit frequently, double that. If your sister, her husband and their two kids visit, you have to quadruple it. If you get a lot of visitors, you want to have plenty of towels without having to do the laundry on a daily basis.
But, you also need to consider how much space you have to store extra towels. Larger homes may have a closet within the bathroom to store things such as towels, while smaller homes may not. While you want to have enough towels, you also want to have somewhere to conveniently store them.
The standard rule is one set of towels per family member. But, you will probably want at least two hand towels per family member and at least three washcloths. Hand towels and washcloths get more use than bath towels and get dirtier quicker, so having more helps cut down on the laundry load. Plus, these are more inexpensive than the bath towels, so it shouldn't break your budget to get a few more.
If it is just you or you and your spouse and you get few, if any, visitors, you may want to limit yourself to three sets of towels - one for each of you and one for visitors. Another thing you will want to consider is if you have easy access to a washer and dryer. If you have these appliances in your home, laundry will be a lot easier. If you live in an apartment where you have to haul your laundry somewhere else, you may want to purchase extra towels so you don't have to do laundry as much.
Of course, if you have children, you may need more towels. Everyone knows that kids usually get dirtier than most adults. This is especially true if you have a baby or toddler that may have accidents. Another thing to consider is if you live near a beach. That means you will need not only the standard sets of bath towels, but you will probably want beach towels as well.
Determining the number of bath towels you need for you, your family, and visitors is very important. If you underestimate, you will have to do more laundry, but if you overestimate, you will end up with too many bath towels taking up room in the closets.
