When you go to a supermarket to buy something, they are earning money in the same way just like affiliate marketers. They make a cut on the products they sell by marking up the price on the wholesale price.

Affiliate marketers help other people sell their products and make a small cut. It is a nice job to have and the power of the Internet has made it easier to reach out to the entire world. Earning money doesn't mean you need to have a physical store. Having a blog or website that brings people to the right place to buy things is enough.

There is no scamming involved in affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketers don't want to trick people and they just want a fair chance to make some money like everyone else.
