Roller blinds look boring and cheap, right? Well if you buy white vinyl roller blinds, then yes, the only benefits you will probably get are a little extra privacy and darkness when you want it. You will not, however be making an aesthetically pleasing design choice. Unless you are a professional interior designer and have a great idea. And I would love to hear this idea for incorporating white roller shades.
If you want to really have something unique in your window coverings try some of these designer artsy roller shades. Some blinds companies have come out with black, black-out roller blinds... with holes in them! The punched out holes are arranged in a patterns like night skylines shown above. This is truly art, taking a piece of utilitarian equipment; and making it breathtaking. The idea is fresh and remarkable... and marketable. A picture of a skyline to replace a skyline is not the best idea, but it gives suburban homes a mystical feel. The lonely but crowded city. Striking, as the bright sun beams through the jet black canvass.
Another great artistic roller blind is the fabric blind. Custom window shade companies are coming out with these in all kinds of designs and patterns, but the real beauty of the situation is that fabric roller blinds are easy to make yourself. You can make your own custom blinds by picking a fabric and using it to replace vinyl or some other material.
Printed blinds are another artsy blind that are becoming more commercial. Most sales are cute things like puppies and babies. The new trend is buying grandma prints of her grandchildren on her shades. Custom prints can be anything, floral design or self-made artwork, but kittens outsell any art now.
Businesses can also use printed blinds to make their building more noticeable when the shades are pulled. You could even make a picture by combining the windows in an office building. Of course the easiest solution for exposure is to print the company logo or slogan on the shades.
Hopefully more artists will take to the boring window coverings business to make our lives a little more interesting.
