Depression Causes - Why Can't We See Them?

As I said several times before, answering the "why am I depressed" question is not an easy thing to do. The thing is that actual causes of depression can be well hidden from you, and in many cases you may choose to not be aware of them.

Yes, often we don't want to see what's going on in our life. We blame ourselves too much while refusing to try and act on the problem especially if other people are involved.

Take your job for example. Do you really enjoy it? If you do, I'm really happy for you. The problem is most of us don't. But what do we do to solve our depression problems? Not much.

Why? Probably because it's hard to change the status quo. We're afraid our manager will find out, we are unsure how our spouse will react, and there are loads of such excuses. It may sound stupid, but we prefer to torment ourselves going to a job we hate instead of admitting a simple fact that our career needs significant improvement right now.

Think about it. Is your job really worth it? Do you honestly think that you can't have anything better? I find it hard to believe mostly because there aren't that many things in the world that can justify the pain of daily, boring routine.

Often the people can't leave because the job is well paid. That's still not a valid reason. After all, how much does your happiness cost? What's the price for your health? How much would you give to get out of depression, in dollars? Sounds crazy, right?

Have no illusions, a job can be extremely depressive if you hate it. After all, that's something that you have to do almost every day!

Another great example is unhappy marriage. You won't believe how many people are afraid to realize that their marriage is dead just because they are afraid of divorce!

I agree that divorce is not the most pleasant thing in the world, but:

A) No one in saying that you have to divorce, as there are myriads of ways to fix your marriage without killing it.

B) Even if divorce seems the only option, it is still much better than living together in hate. People may be worried about kids, but don't think the kids will enjoy family where mom and dad want to tear each other apart!

I know out of my own experience how blind we can be if we don't want to see anything. However, the point is you don't have to be afraid of the truth. It's the only thing that can truly help you!

Don't be afraid to admit that some area in your life needs fixing just because it will be hard. After all, no matter what happens, just a mere fact that you won't have to tell "help I'm depressed" again should outweigh all the potential trouble!

Sometimes we're forced to make tough and even painful decisions in life. However, that's something nobody can avoid. So, instead of running away from your troubles, why don't you look them in the eyes? That's the only way to stop being depressed once and for all.
