Actions, behavior, emotions - they all originate from our thoughts. That is why in order for us to create a healthy psychological framework we must make sure that our thoughts are healthy.
There are four basic types of thoughts that visit us in our every waking moment.
First of these is the ever popular negative thoughts, which includes thoughts of anger and of harming others. Waste thoughts, on the other hand, is dwelling in the past and would include regret and doubts. This kind of thoughts can develop into negative thoughts if we would put more energy into them.
Another kind of thought is positive thoughts, which are thoughts that uplift the spirit. While mundane thoughts are neutral thoughts that deals with the everyday needs of the body like what to eat or where to drink. The last are thoughts that are automatic and do not require a lot of thinking. Mundane thoughts can turn into either positive or negative thoughts, depending on how we cope with the challenges that we meet in order to satisfy these thoughts.
When we entertain more negative thoughts rather than positive thoughts our body would also react negatively. We would start to develop headaches, body ache, palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, and a feeling of tiredness with just a little amount of activity.
On the other hand, positive thoughts calm the body and our systems, promoting better health and creating in us a sense of satisfaction and rejuvenation. Actually, if only we are able to control our thoughts and entertain only positive thoughts, there would be no need for us to spend hundreds in spas and pampering clinics.
Meditation is one way of training the mind to think only of positive thoughts. Once we make it a habit, it empowers the mind to be more in control of its other faculties that includes our psychological imprint, responsible for our habits and coping mechanisms, and our thoughts.
The mind acts as a guard, conscience, if you may, that filters the thoughts that we entertain and reinforces our psychological imprints. When our mind is weak, we are unable to control the thoughts that we entertain and our reaction to certain situations becomes automatic. But with a strong mind, we are more in control of what we thoughts to entertain and is able to approach challenges objectively like a detached observer.
Meditation strengthens the mind by feeding it with positive thoughts, which will then be converted to positive energy. This positive energy allows us to cope with everyday challenges more objectively and positively. We would start to understand why events happen and how we should react to these events, otherwise we become trapped in the web of sulking, self blame, and safe hate, eventually resulting in clinical depression.
Meditation is very easy. Simply look for a quite place where you can contemplate on your good and positive qualities like peace and love, and strengthen your inner powers like the powers to tolerate, withdraw, pack-up, face, and discriminate.
Reinforce these powers by claiming them to be yours and experiencing them as yours, and in no time your mind will be filled with so much positivity that no negative thoughts could ever hinder you from becoming who you really are - a powerful being who is in control of the self.
