In order to overcome depression, it is very important that you become aware of how much of yourself you give to other people. To get through depression and become stronger as a result, will require you to set boundaries for yourself and others.
If you do not set your own boundaries, other people can deplete your energy by making demands on you that you may not wish to fulfil, but may feel obligated to.
Maybe your depression is a way for you to say "no". Your body is saying it for you because if you are a very giving person you may find it hard to actually say "no" to others. The problem is that in giving to others so much, you are actually saying "no" to yourself.
Feeling like you ALWAYS have to BE there for everyone can leave you drained, angry and feeling like you can't cope, when, in fact, what is really happening is that you need to be there for yourself and take good care of your emotional health.
A way to begin setting boundaries is to give yourself permission to start saying no until it becomes a habit and then you can CHOOSE when to say yes and feel good about it!
Begin by saying "no" to everything even if just for a day, and see how you feel. It may be uncomfortable at first because you are so used to complying with whatever people want, but if you persist, you will begin to gain your power back and feel better about yourself.
Depression is often anger turned against ourselves. You are better able to strengthen yourself emotionally if you know what is important to you and how you feel about things and you begin honouring your choices.
Think about and list your values in life. Get clear about what you are willing and unwilling to do for people. Decide how much time you want to spend with someone and how much time you want to spend doing something you love. Allow yourself to feel joyful.
Don't allow others to dictate your life because your wants and needs are just as important. Value yourself and put yourself first. If someone is overstepping your boundaries, you will need to assert yourself and make it clear that it is not acceptable.
Depression can be overcome through learning more about your own self and valuing your right to say "no" in life.
