Dental Technology is at an All Time Advanced Stage - So Why Do So Many People Have Such Bad Teeth?

When I was a kid my Mom never told us that we had a dental appointment until about an hour before we were due to go. She knew very well that my sister and I would create such a fuss and be adamant we did not want to go. Going to the dentist was something to be feared, and if ever we had to have treatment those fears seemed justified because it was not a pain-free experience.

Even today - when dentists have the benefit of huge technological advancements in procedures and pain management, there are many people who are still terrified of going to the dentist. This is something that needs to be worked on at an early age - we don't want to pass on ungrounded fears to our children.

Despite all the facilities available from dental clinics, they are facing an uphill battle against teeth problems due to the massive increase of sugar consumption which has occurred in recent years. Sugar is often contained in processed and convenience foods - and they do not have to be the traditional sweet treats to contain sugar. For instance, I have just checked the label on a can of baked beans - a supposedly healthy, cheap and staple favorite food - to find that it contains over 6% sugar. With all the hidden sugar in our diets it is no wonder that our teeth are suffering, not to mention our levels of obesity.

When buying groceries it is vital that you check the food label - however tedious that may be - if you want to give the most nutritious and healthy food to your family. Prevention is always better than cure, so by cutting down on the intake of sugar you will be doing your teeth a favour as well as your overall health and well-being.

As for the dental visits - it truly can be a pain free experience these days so set aside your fears and make an appointment for a check up. You will be pleasantly surprised at how things have changed.
