If we told you that the world was going to end tomorrow and it didn't, most people would consider me to be a nutcase. If you read a statement like that in the Bible, this could be a totally different story.
If the Bible states that the end of the world is going to have horses breathing fire, unbelievable death and destruction and will only happen after other events take place, would this be considered a reasonable statement.
The first claim was made by one person and after it didn't happen and the world was still here, the next day, we know that this person was actually wrong. This makes sense to most people, because we have the evidence to support our claims. We actually have the ability to reason and defend our claims with hard-core scientific proof.
Just because the Bible makes a statement like Jesus walked on water or Moses parted the Red Sea, doesn't mean that these events actually happened. If we could actually prove beyond a reasonable doubt that these events didn't happen, could a reasonable Christian assume that there could be other historical events that also never happened, that are written in the Holy Bible.
This is exactly where we stand with the Bible. There are plenty of historical events that cannot be proven, yet millions of Christians who don't understand this concept, go through life assuming that they actually did. They tell their children and friends that this is how that happened and that is how this happened, even though they have no reasonable evidence to support their claims.
Are these Christians that do this, unreasonable people? Can they be reasoned with to accept scientific evidence that might be offensive to Christianity? The key to understanding and becoming a reasonable objective observer of the truth would be to have an open mind. Reasonable and rational thinking starts with the ability to ingest and absorb new types of thinking.
You must be able to defend your ability to reason. Start asking yourself the tough questions with an open mind.
