There are plenty of great themes for boys' and girls' rooms. Remember that a special theme will provide both the focus and the inspiration your child needs for a special one-of-a-kind room, however, you need a room theme that can be adapted as your child grows.
One theme that is a great one for boys is "A Bug's Life", no not the movie, but really bugs! Everything from bees and ants to frogs and reptiles, decorating with a theme of creatures of nature is a great way to capture a child's attention. Also, decorating with this theme could have an added bonus for you: maybe using this theme in the bedroom will encourage your son to leave the real thing outside! Now wouldn't that be nice?
It seems like children are fascinated with nature, and whether you have a little boy, or a little girl, decorating with a theme of, "Favorite Animals" can't go wrong. What child wouldn't love a room focusing on his or her favorite pet? This could be a real pet they own, or a pet that they want to own. If it is a pet the child owns use photographs of the child with that pet to decorate the walls. Whether it's a dog or cat, bird or snake, using this theme will make your child feel particularly at home and happy. Also, you can use stuffed animals to make the room more homey, and comfortable.
For decorating with a theme that is going to inspire creativity and imagination, use the playhouse or play town theme. This theme provides a wonderful scheme for decorating as well as making playtime possibilities endless. You can paint a mural on the wall of stores and name the stores after people in your family! Like Jenny's Diner, or Ted's Taco Shop! This makes the room fun, and personal.
Another theme children love is the safari theme! For a safari look, find wonderful, colorful animal wallpaper borders and fabrics at any wallpaper store. Paint the walls blue, tan, ivory, or any of the colors in your wallpaper border. Make pillows and valances from coordinating leopard-print fabrics, and find some stuffed lions and tigers for the corner. Mount a butterfly net, binoculars, or straw hat on the walls. The possibilities are endless, and your child will have hours of fun pretending they are on an elephant hunt in the African jungles.
Another great theme for just about any child is that of a cabin, or the great outdoors. basically every child loves spending time at camp or in the mountains. So decorate with that theme, and use things that inspire memories of hiking, boating, fishing, or just enjoying the outdoors. Birdhouses, bears, moose, and fish might show up in wallpaper borders, in fabrics, bedding, and accessories. Choose comfy plaid patterns, flannel fabrics, and log or pine beds.
When decorating with a theme the possibilities are endless, so choose a theme you know your child will love, be creative with it, have fun, and decorate a room that will inspire creativity and imagination and promote hours and hours of fun!
