Are you looking to sell your house fast? If you answered YES, you need to declutter your house. A cluttered house is a house that will sit unsold for months and months. This may be one of the biggest challenges we see when we view houses to buy. Because you've been living there for years, you may think the 20 minute "straighten up" of the clutter will suffice. This couldn't be further from the truth.
You need to get rid of about 30%-50% of the items that are in your house! Wow, that seem like a lot, doesn't it?
It sure does, but you will be amazed at how good your home looks after you get rid of them. A good rule of thumb is that if you are not sure if an item is clutter, it IS clutter!
If you have a garage and/or a basement, declutter them first, and then move the items from your home into those areas for temporary storage. Start the decluttering process with the little items first, then you'll slowly start to move towards the bigger clutter a little later. This list will make this process even easier for you.
Call the Salvation Army to schedule a free pickup of the clutter that you will be donating them. Save the receipt for a free tax write off for your decluttering efforts!
Clear out and box up all of the clothes from your master closet from the previous 2 seasons. This should be about 1/2 of your clothing and yes clothes certainly do qualify as clutter. Empty closets look bigger!
Clear out at least 50% of all items out of your other closets, give away what you don't need, and box up the rest to put in the basement and/or the garage.
Move 70% of books and bookshelf items into storage. Eliminating this clutter will suddenly make your shelves look exponentially larger!
