Deck restoration is always a drag, but sometimes it is the only way to keep your deck in a safe and useful state. Be sure to check it over completely before you begin.
A broken storm damaged deck will need a thorough inspection for damage to its foundation. A solid structure is of utmost importance to the safety of your deck and for the well being of anyone that uses it. I'm sure it would be really disappointing if your deck gave out when you are entertaining a group of friends or co-workers.
Stairs are the most used area of your deck and will get a lot of scuffs and bruises so it's more likely to see cracks where moisture can get in causing premature damage. You really have to check out this area of your deck more than you do the others. The railing is a vital part when you want to keep people from getting hurt and should also be inspected for damage regularly.
When considering doing the railing in your deck restoration job you will need to spend some time deciding what type of railing you want to install.
Railing made of wood is often the first choice for most new homeowners. Wood is easy to work with and doesn't require a lot of skill to assemble making it great for an average do-it yourself handyman. Anyone with a wood deck can vouch for the fact that it needs to be maintained to hold its new look and should not be used by anyone not willing to take care of it.
A standard deck rail is usually installed by new homeowners or people that like to do the work themselves. They are constructed of wood and are relatively cheap and easy to build. The skill level to build a standard deck rail is not very high and can be done by almost anyone willing to try.
After you finish your deck restoration job you should really look into adding some accessories. Outdoor dining furniture is the perfect addition to your deck and should be one of the first things you add to it. You can't beat it when you have a bunch of friends over for an evening. It is an excellent place to enjoy a meal while taking in the beautiful outdoor weather.
Patio furniture like a love seat or a couple of lounge chairs are also a perfect addition to your deck. They make a great place to just sit back and relax after a hard day at work. Spending the evening sitting outside with a loved one is something that can't be beat.
