I love Dancing with the Stars. It's not your typical reality show in that it's not about just anyone off the street trying to sing or perhaps a collection of very carefully screen "reality" contestants off eating rats on a desert island somewhere. Dancing with the Stars is a collection of about a dozen celebrities (or almost-celebrities) who need a bit of popularity boost or just have time for the indulgence of ten weeks to compete on the show. While the celebrity drama is always interesting, it's the costumes that really bring me back week after week.
The Basics of Dancing with the Stars
On Dancing with the Stars, the dozen or so celebrities are supposed to not have any experience with ballroom and Latin dance. Unfortunately, this season the winner turned out to be someone who dances hip-hop for a living, so there a bit of a false feeling at the end, but that's neither here or there now. In the episodes, the grueling weeks of dance practice are showcased with each celebrity paired up with a professional dancer. There is always some interesting footage. Then the two dance their assigned dance or two if it's later in the season. After each dance, the judge gives the contestants scores and viewers can call in their votes. The results show is the following night when one couple is eliminated for the week and the dancers go back to the ballroom to prepare for the next round of dances.
The Costumes of Dancing with the Stars
On Dancing with the Stars, there are some truly lovely costumes. The most daring are usually worn by the pro dancers - one in particular. Edyta's costumes are often rather barely there and might rank as lingerie or swimwear rather than a costume, but if anyone can pull it off, she can. Edyta isn't the only one on Dancing with the Stars wearing the skimpy costumes, however. Most of the professional female dancers wind up with a super short skirt and plenty of cleavage at some point. Even the male dancers remove their shirts more than once during the season during a particularly hot dance move. The end result is a lot of skin, but for some reason it works.
The other costumes of Dancing with the Stars are the long gowns. Sweeping ball gowns are rarely seen today outside of red carpet events, but on Dancing with the Stars, you can see them every week. These beautiful gowns are often split for the dance moves, but flow and form around the ankles or feet of the dancers. I've even seen some of the dancers get tangled in their long, flowing gowns. Regardless, the beautiful dresses float out around them as they dance making viewers, me included, want to take up dancing just so we can pull on such a beautiful dress, too.
Even if we'll never make it to the dance floor with these celebrities, there is still plenty to see on the shows. Between the celebrity dances, the performing artists and the special presentations, there are full evenings of entertainment and gorgeous gowns - you can't go wrong.
