Cutting Down on Noise in an Apartment

When we were growing up there were several houses in town that two and three levels for renting. When we started to rent the third floor it was alright, we were young and could handle the stairs and thought nothing of the noise that the second floor had to listen to when the children would run around the room. One day the old woman had asked if we knew anything about rugs. We all had hardwood floors and it was something that no one was able to put carpeting in because of the expense. When I said no she asked if she purchased a Sphinx rug for us would we use it in the main room where we watch television?

I thought this was an odd request and asked her why and she said when her children were young and active she had several area rugs that she used in different places throughout her apartment to help cut down on the noise for the apartment and for the tenant below. She did not want to complain she wanted to help and someone had told her about the Sphinx area rugs. I told her if the children were making too much noise then I would keep them quiet and she said please let me buy you an area rug. So, I said alright. She asked the main colors of my decorating theme and I told her it was beige and brown.

The next day she had a Sphinx area rug delivered and it was in an oriental pattern. It was beautiful so I thought she had made a mistake. The colors were perfect and the size covered the whole inside of the room leaving the furniture to surround it. I thanked the woman and told her I would glad pay her some money towards it and she declined. She told me she bought it locally and if I truly liked it I may want to consider purchasing another for the hallway. Not only did I notice how the area rug cut down on the noise in my own home but I also found it comfortable to walk on. What a great idea.
