Credit Identity Theft Protection

The millions of people who had their identity stolen last year never thought they needed credit identity theft protection until they received their credit report. Identity theft comes in many forms and can happen to anyone. Your age, lifestyle or ethnicity doesn't matter to a thief only your personal information so they can easily become you.

Can you imagine someone else becoming you, if only for a few minutes to ruin your credit? Eventually that's what happens if you become victim to credit identity theft. You see, most people focus on the initial problem of "will I be responsible for items I didn't purchase." That's not the most important problem you'll face if your identity is stolen.

Once the credit bureaus are notified by various vendors that there is a problem all the negativity associated with those defrauded vendors will show up on your report. I know, I know...it wasn't you but now you are left to prove that to the credit bureaus and it could take years to straighten it out.
Credit identity theft protection has been growing for years and it becomes a necessary service as thieves figure out new ways to steal.

The problem is that many people would rather go the DIY method of protecting their identity however can you really cover all the bases? It becomes a lot of work and the reality is you can't possibly take care of everything and proactively protect yourself. There are so many loopholes that we can't possibly cover all the bases. Look at the demand:

  • Online Banking with spoofed sites
  • Online Shopping with fraudulent vendors
  • Devices installed on ATM machines to steal your numbers and password
  • Surveys sent by phony banking sites promising monetary awards to complete and return
  • Calls to your home congratulating you on winning a contest - you get a trip or car but you must pay the taxes so they ask for your credit card number
  • Thieves rummaging through your garbage looking for bills and personal info

Even after doing all the legwork it takes time to clear your records and get this completely straightened out. Before you know it debt collectors are calling you and you've become a credit risk. Credit Identity theft protection is insurance for the "what-if".

Even those individuals who do not use the Internet - yes there are a few out there - you still are at risk because thieves are still using old conventional methods of stealing your personal info.

So why leave it to the pro's?

Businesses like Lifelock check multiple databases and have the technology to become aware when your name shows up on a payday loan application or utility bill or a new credit card. These services also come with an insurance plan, just in case you are defrauded of your identity you can recoup some of the out-of-pocket expenses.
