Creating An Ideal Business

A business is a business is a business... right??... WRONG! A business is an extremely personal endeavor and your ideal business is at the intersection of the "You" and the "Who". These are terms I use to refer to you, the business owner and those who are in your target market. I have seen the most successful businesses operate in the overlap between what is important to you and what is important to your market. That is why I spend so much time in my business encouraging clients to get intimately connected with both.

As employees we were told what was important to us and to our clients. We typically were not privy to how the business evolved or why the business was set up in the way it was. We just accepted it and went about our work. As an entrepreneur, especially a solo-preneur you MUST be excited and resonating with your business. There are too many ups and downs for us to NOT be connected and excited about what we do and how it is structured. In addition, we need to be very conscientious about what our market is interested in. If we want to hide in our home office all day, but our market desires to interact with us live, we will never have a business because there is a big mismatch.

The good news is there are billions of consumers out there who are all interested in consuming information and services in different ways. Finding a good overlap between the two will not be hard to achieve. In order to get you started, I encourage you to think about how you would most like your business to be structured and then interview people in your target market to get a sense of what they think and want.

Creating an ideal business is an iterative process and at least for me has led to several evolutions of my business, starting with 1:1 ad hoc model. Over the course of my 3+ years in business I have moved to a hybrid model where I can offer, 1:1 packages, group coaching and home study programs. I know that as I move forward it will evolve further with the introduction of business books and multi day seminars.

Starting and growing a successful business is not a static endeavor, so allow yourself the space to evolve and change as needed. This will be one of the keys to your success!
