Create a Free Website With Weebly

Expert Author Kristine Wirth

Many people who are just starting out online need a way to get a website up and running quickly. One of the ways that you can do this is to set up a free website at Weebly.com.

Now, I normally don't condone free websites simply because they don't offer you the control and flexibility that your own site does, however, they are a fantastic way to test out a market first before you decide to buy your own domain name and get your own web hosting.

Weebly let's you create a website almost instantly. There's no need to download any software, purchase web hosting or even register a domain name. You can do all of the website creation on your own within your web browser.

The first thing you'll need to do is set up an account which is a very simple process.

Your next step will be to choose a title for your site. I suggest using the main keyword of the content of your website within the title. And this can always be modified later on if you change your mind later on down the line.

Next, Weebly offers you two options when creating your domain. You can use their website which means that your site will say "YourTopic.weebly.com". Alternatively you can also register a website address with Weebly or use one of your existing website addresses if you have one.

Now, if you intend on using this site as your primary business website I highly suggest that you do in fact get your own domain name. That said, I would refrain from purchasing it directly from Weebly simply because they'll charge you around $40/year and you can register your own for less than $10 at NameCheap.com.

Once you have that domain you can then tell Weebly what that domain name is and they will then give you instructions on how to add your domain to the new website that you've just created.

Next, you'll be taken to the place at Weebly where you can start to design your site. Listed at the top of the page will be a variety of different items you can add to your new site and all you have to do is drag whatever elements you want to use on your site from the toolbar down into the site design screen.

This includes items such as:

  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Forums
  • AdSense
  • Title Tags
  • Autoresponder forms
  • And more.

They also give you a wide variety of designs to choose from for your own site which is helpful if you don't want to get into designing your own or if you don't want to hire someone to do it for you.

Additionally, you can automatically add elements to your web pages such as videos and audio files. However, this requires that you upgrade to a "pro" version but this only costs a few dollars a month.

All in all, I believe that if you want to create a free website of your own, Weebly is a fantastic place to start. It requires little to no site design skills, and is more user-friendly than any online website builder that I've come across to date.
